On Sunday, June 30, 2024, at approximately 4:51 p.m., Oswego Police were dispatched to a personal injury accident at the intersection of Douglas Rd and Fernwood Rd. While responding, officers learned the driver of the offending vehicle had fled the scene. Witnesses reported a KIA Optima heading north on Douglas Rd did not stop for the red light and struck a Ford Maverick that was turning left from eastbound Fernwood Rd to northbound Douglas Rd. It was reported the driver of the KIA exited the vehicle and fled north on Douglas Rd on foot. The driver was described as a white male, wearing a maroon shirt and black shorts. The man was quickly located in a parking lot in the 1700 block of Douglas Rd, near Pet Supplies Plus and identified as Robert K. Hefner of Yorkville. Hefner was arrested, issued citations for leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a revoked license, and disregarding a traffic control device, and released. He has a court date of August 13, 2024. The driver of the truck, a 76-year-old male from Montgomery, reported non-life-threatening injuries. He was examined by medics at the scene and declined transport to a hospital. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The Oswego Police Department would like to thank the Montgomery Police Department and the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance as well as the witnesses who assisted in locating the offender.
