Starlifter: USAF Band of Mid-America

Following a rain-out this past spring, the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America’s Starlifter is back to present a free concert at Venue 1012 on Friday, Sept. 24.

This seven-piece popular music group features guitar, bass, drums, piano and vocalists, and is sure to impress audiences of all ages.

Starlifter celebrates America’s love for rock, country and popular music. A versatile ensemble, Starlifter tells the Air Force story by performing for military functions, community concerts, school assemblies and outdoor festivals at home and abroad.

Originally scheduled to play as a part of this spring’s weeklong Oswego Honors Veterans line-up, the rained-out show is back and now on stage at the new Venue 1012 to honor our veterans with a night of great music.

“We are so excited to be able to welcome back Starlifter,” Village President Troy Parlier said. “I want to invite everyone in our community to come out to this opportunity to honor our veterans and have a great time. This concert will reach across all genres of music.”

Starlifter is a component of the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America, the musical ambassador of the Air Mobility Command. Formerly known as the Air Force Band of Mid-America, the Military Airlift Command Band, and the AMC Band of Mid-America, the United States Air Force band of Mid-America was established in 1942 at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. In 1960, the band began working from its present home at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, as the principal representative of the Military Air Transport Service and the Military Airlift Command, both predecessors of Air Mobility Command. In any given year, the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America and its component units perform more than 400 engagements for more than one million people.

Starlifter’s musical versatility provides exciting events for audiences overseas, our nation’s top leaders, festival-goers, and enthusiastic crowds at summer park concerts. In the tradition of their namesake, the C-141 Starlifter transport jet, this combo’s high-energy music transports its listeners to a higher plane.

Starlifter performs on Friday, Sept. 24 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Venue 1012, 1012 Station Drive, Oswego. Admission is free and open to the public, and this is a family-friendly, all-ages event. Patrons are invited to bring lawn chairs, food, and non-alcoholic beverages.
