School Day Zone Parking Restrictions
In an effort to alleviate parking concerns and ensure Oswego residents have adequate parking during school hours, the Village has determined that it is in the best interest of its residents to restrict parking during school days on certain streets within the Village. Village Ordinance 9-4-10 restricts parking and allows for a parking permit process required on school days between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. in certain neighborhoods and business districts within a one-mile radius of Oswego East High School.
Currently, five zones have been established and are mapped out.
The school day restriction applies to roads inside a restricted parking zone. In order to be legally parked, a zone permit must be obtained from the Village unless one of the following conditions applies:
- The vehicle is registered to an address in that zone. Any resident whose vehicle is registered to an address in a particular zone shall be allowed to park there without obtaining a permit.
- The vehicle is a commercial or business vehicle conducting business in that zone (Contractors, deliveries, vehicles providing service or repair, etc., are exempt)
- The vehicle is parked for emergency purposes
Village of Oswego residents who do not live within a particular zone in which they would like to park on school days may apply for a zone permit. Only 25 permits will be issued for each zone. An annual permit costs $400. Applications are available on the online parking portal. You need to create an account by clicking on Register at top of the portal page. Virtual permits will be linked to license plate numbers, therefore no physical permits will be issued. If you need help with the portal, you may call Records at 630-551-7300 between the hours of 7AM and 11PM.
Warnings will be issued to any violators for the first 30 days. After that, tickets will be issued with a fine of $250.00 per occurrence.
Residents outside of the Village of Oswego limits will not be eligible to apply for a zone permit.
The ordinance does allow for a Village of Oswego resident to request an exemption in the event of a hardship or request a temporary waiver. To do so, complete the below form to apply. Once received, the application will be reviewed and you will be contacted on the status of your application.
