- The Citizens at Risk (C.A.R.) program is designed to allow residents who may be at a greater risk of becoming confused, lost, disoriented, or missing to be registered with the Oswego Police prior to an emergency. Oswego Junior Public Safety Academy
Class is July 15-19, 2024, 8am to 12pm ~ Applications are due by July 1, 2024
The Oswego Police and Fire Departments host sessions of the Oswego Junior Public Safety Academy in the summer. Sessions are Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 12:00pm. The Junior Public Safety Academy is offered free of charge to all District 308 Junior High School students. Oswego Junior Public Safety Academy Recruits/Cadets will be exposed to several different aspects of the Police and Fire profession, with a focus on the "why" rather than the "how". Some of the topics covered will include:
- Traffic Stops
- Car accident & crime scene investigation
- Patrolling the streets
- Water flow and fire extinguishment
- K-9 demonstration
- Building searches
All topics of discussion will incorporate positive decision-making skills, with a focus on developing positive moral character. An emphasis is placed on each child's role in maintaining the quality of our community. All graduates will receive a Junior Public Safety Academy T-Shirt and Diploma.
Applications are available in the lobby of the Oswego Law Enforcement Center and available below for download. Please contact the School Resource Officer of the Oswego Police Department with any questions at 630-551-7300. The application must be turned into the Oswego Police Department in person by the due date on the application.
