Permanent Parking Exemption Form
When to use this form
This form is for applying ONLY for a permanent overnight parking exemption in Oswego for residents who have more vehicles than driveway/garage space.
This is NOT for a temporary overnight exemption. Residents looking for a temporary exemption, such as for when one may have out-of-town guests or an event for which there is not have enough driveway space, need to go to the Temporary Parking Exemption page to request an exemption. More information is also available on our Parking Page.
Qualifications
- In order to qualify for a permanent overnight parking exemption, each garage space must be used for parking a vehicle. If your garage is used for storage instead of parking vehicles your request will be denied.
- Permanent overnight parking exemptions are not granted due to vehicles needing to be shuffled around on the driveway.
- Vehicles may be parked over the sidewalk between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., and that space will be included upon taking measurements for vehicles in a residential driveway.
Process
Residents wishing to receive a permanent exemption must first apply for a temporary exemption to start the process:
- Create an account on our Online Parking Portal, verify through email, and log back in.
- Select Permits, then Apply for Permit
- Select Residential Exemption
- Select start date
- Select "Buy" (there is no charge, price shows $0.00)
- Enter address and vehicle information, and Submit the temporary exemption.
- Call Records at 630-551-7300 to extend the temporary exemption until permanent application is approved.

Permanent Overnight Parking Exemption Restrictions and Limitations
- Overnight parking is prohibited after a snowfall of two inches or more. All vehicles must be removed from the street to allow for snow removal. Failure to remove vehicles from the street for snow removal will result in the issuance of a citation, even if the vehicle has been granted a permanent overnight exemption.
- If you get a new vehicle you must notify the police department of the change or you may receive a citation for a violation of the ordinance.
- Permanent exemptions will be reviewed annually.
